Snarere 8-12 ms. Resten kommer nok nærmere af en stresset router eller
et congested link mellem dig og den første IP-router. Her er fx som
det ser ud på min ADSL-forbindelse:

212.242.3.238 er første IP-dimmer efter mit netværk slutter. Her er
det i øvrigt interessant at bemærke at den ikke står på den lokale
telecentral, så trafikken har sikkert været igennem et par ATM-kasser
og nogle km fiberkabler før den når derhen.

Forsinkelsen på ADSL-forbindelsen skyldes i øvrigt bit-interleaving,
hvor man bytter rundt på data-klumperne så eventuelle fejl (fordi man
køre hen over gamle dårlige kobberkabler) fordeles jævnt ud over en
større klump data, hvor man så typisk kan rette op på dem med diverse
fejlkorrigerende koder.

Til gengæld får du en dejligt lav latency på sådan en
fiberforbindelse. Til surfing af hjemmesider og den slags vil
forbindelsen sikkert synes mærkbart hurtigere end en ADSL med samme
downstream bitrate, alene på grund af den lavere latency.
